Hong Kong Weekend Adventures Outside the City - Off the Beaten Path

Lifestyle Oct 11, 2022

Hong Kong may be known for its towering skyscrapers, but she actually does have a lesser known side, a more nature-centric one, that’s filled with fresh fruit and vegetable farms, and exciting outdoor activities.

Did you know that over 70% of Hong Kong consists of mountains, forests and lakes?

Whether you are an adventurer, trying to be more outdoorsy, or simply a lover of nature, we got you covered on activities and places that will quite literally take you off the beaten path. From a relaxing day spent petting farm animals or picking fresh fruits, to an adrenalin-pumping mountain biking adventure, take your pick and explore these spots in Hong Kong!

Due to the ever-changing COVID-19 situation, do note that the following farms and guided adventure companies may not be operating at regular hours. To avoid disappointment, you may want to contact them before making your way down.

Fresh fruit and vegetable farm visits

Strawberry Farm

Ping Che Road, Fanling
+852 9168 8931

Strawberry farm is an organic farm covering an area of over 27,000 square metres. Visit the farm between December and April and you will get to experience handpicking your own strawberries fresh from the plant! Outside of strawberry season, you can harvest your own cherry tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage and more. Entry is free and the fresh produce is charged by weight.

Zen Organic Farm

Ping Che, Ta Kwu Ling
+852 6692 2671

With an area of more than 23,000 square metres, Zen Organic grows many colourful fruits and vegetables including figs, strawberries, carrots, and tomatoes. The farm prides itself on the flavour of its produce as they claim to harvest them at the optimal time and at the peak of their nutritional value. It's no wonder that many local chefs choose to source their raw materials from this farm.

While it is a private farm which requires a booking for group visits, the farm can still organise tours and workshops to tailor to different groups of visitors while covering topics such as organic farming and seasonal vegetables.

HKFYG Organic Farm

No. 1 Family Walk, Ho Pui Reservoir, Pat Heung, Yuen Long
+852 2838 4808

Founded in 2010, HKFYG Organic Farm covers an area of 15,000 square metres in the Yuen Long district. The farm offers an amazing value with its Weekend and Holiday Special Package for only HK$128, which includes a round trip shuttle service between Kam Sheung Road MTR Station and the farm, entry to all the farm areas, handicraft workshop and a half catty of self-picked organic vegetables.

If you are looking to learn more about environmental protection and organic farming, the farm also offers a 30-minute guided educational tour for HK$30 per person.

Go Green Organic Farm

Si Pai Shek, Kam Tin, Yuen Long
+852 5579 2178

Alpacas in Hong Kong? Oh yes!

At Go Green Organic Farm there are real-life alpacas as well as rabbits and goats roaming about. Apart from their alpacas, the farm is also famous for its pineapples and pineapple theme decorations. As such, it's not surprising to find that they offer many pineapple-related workshops that include baking and planting.
